Top 5 types of paint brushes needed to get you started!

Getting into any hobby can be a challenge when you don't know which tools are the best. You can end up spending a lot and not have the appropriate tools.
Below are the main 5 types of brushes any painter needs to get started!
#1 - Round Tipped Brushes
Round tipped brushes are the most versatile brushes of them all. Whether it's a normal or long round tipped brush, they hold paint in their cores, meaning they need to be dipped in paint less often, but end in a fine tapered point. The exclusion is round tipped blender brushes, that are more on the flat side. These brushes can be used to cover large areas of your project, make thicker lines of many shapes and sizes, and even be used to blend colors together!
#2 - Liner Brushes
Liner brushes have small long bristles. They are designed to be use for small areas and fine details. These brushes make the best precision lines and come in handy for things like vines & tree branches, while still giving painters the opportunity to thicken out the lines as they go!
#3 - Fan Brushes
As the name implies, fan brushes are flat brushes with the bristles laid out like a hand-fan. While these brushes can also be used to cover large areas of your project, their main purpose if to create texture. They are great for making tree foliage and similar textured scenery, but also for blending and softening edges of paint strokes!
#4 - Angled Brushes
Angled brushes, as the name suggests, has a tip that is on a angle. They are best used for nice crisp edges in tight areas. Therefore, having an angled brush in your toolkit is great if you are looking for nice straight lines and precision control!
#5 - Flat or Wash Brushes
Flat or wash brushes are best for creating nice long strokes, while also applying color to large areas. This type of brush is what you would use for your base coat and to create parts of your background.

Brush Maintenance
Lastly, we want to remind you to always keep your painting supplies nice and tidy. Using odorless paint thinner is an option, however it can be hard on the bristles over time. Therefore, we personally like using The Master's Brush Cleaner & Murphy Oil Soap to keep our brushes spick and span.
You're Ready to Start your Painting Journey
Determining the right type and size of brushes for you will vary depending on what you wish to paint. However, having one large flat brush, a couple round tipped brushes, one small liner brush, one small-medium fan & a couple angled brushes is a good starting point to your artistic adventures!
